World Cup: France, Brazil, Portugal Through To The Round Of 16 As African Representatives Bounce Back On Match Day 2

France, Brazil and Portugal are the first set of teams to reach the Round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar.

The world cup holders confirmed their second round qualification after they defeated Denmark 2-1 in the second group game in Group D. It has been confirmed that France will emerge as the winner of the group regardless of their result in the final Group D encounter against Tunisia who are currently bottom of the group.

Another team that would be in the second round of the competition is Brazil. Casemiro‘s late goal against Switzerland ensured they will not be going home anytime soon.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes‘ double for the Portuguese national team in the 2-0 win against Uruguay confirmed that they will be in the knockout stages for the fifth time in their history.

On the other side of the spectrum are teams whose elimination have been confirmed before match day 3. The host Qatar were eliminated after losing 3-1 to Senegal in the second group game with one match still to spare; due to the undermining result, they have made history as the first host nation to eliminated after only two rounds of play. They will now join South Africa as the second host nation to be eliminated in the group stages.

Following a 4-1 loss to Croatia in Group F, the exhilarating Canadian team will not be going forward in the competition. After waiting for 36 years to participate in the international competition, their journey came to an abrupt sooner than expected.

After an abysmal performance on the opening day of the competition, African representatives have been able to deliver impeccable perspective about the continent.

In Group A, Senegal confirmed the elimination of the competition host Qatar with a 3-1 win. They will be going into the game against Ecuador to iron out a win.

Morocco defeated the star-studded Belgium national team aside 2-0 in Group F. While, the Black Stars of Ghana overcame South Korea 3-2 in one of the most memorable contest of the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon played a 3-3 draw against Serbia in Group G. Despite the positive results from the other teams, Tunisia is yet to record a goal in this tournament, however, they have a point.
