“You’re Never Going To Make Money Being A Singer” - Seyi Shay Tells 17-Year-Old Boy During Audition, Receives Backlash Over CommentSinger, Seyi Shay has come under heavy censure for criticising a 17-year-old boy who auditioned at a music competition, Nigerian Idol.

While giving her comment about the teenager’s performance during the audition as one of the three judges on the show, Seyi Shay declared that he was not good enough and that he can’t amount be successful as a singer.

The artiste said;

I can’t believe what I just heard. Who told you to come here and audition? Somebody lied to you, go back and tell that person they are not your friend, because that was not a good audition. You have a good talking voice and it comes out in your singing voice but your performance is terrible.

Seyi Shay added;

You are never going to make money being a singer. I love you, you are so sweet but you are not a singer. If it’s for song writing, hit me up and we’ll talk but that thing (singing) is not gonna work. Sorry darling.

Seyi Shay’s comments has now sparked angry reactions from many Nigerians who perceived her statement as harsh, insensitive and overboard, after clips of the audition were shared online. 

Taking to their various Twitter handles, some users slammed the singer for criticising the young man while she is struggling to keep her own music career afloat.

Others expressed that her comments could leave the participant sad and depressed, which could damage his confidence and lead to a suicide case.
