Former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe, stated that the Labour Party would field a Muslim from the Northern part of the country as running mate to its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
He made this known via a statement, on Sunday, June 19.
Okupe wrote;
My first statement in the interview with the media was that I was standing in as the VP candidate and elsewhere I explained that it’s an open process till the substitution closes. Labour Party will eventually field a Muslim from the north. End of story.
Labour Party had named Doyin Okupe as the Vice Presidential candidate to Peter Obi, who is the presidential candidate of the party.
However, it was stated that he is holding the position in a placeholder capacity.

Dr. Doyin Okupe is the current Director General of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council.
Meanwhile, members of the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress in Imo North Senatorial District of Imo State on Sunday, June 19, collapsed their structures into the Labour Party and pledged their loyalty and support to its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
This was at a ceremony at Umuaro community in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

A former Deputy Chief of Staff to a former governor of the state, Chikwem Onuoha, said that the decision was reached after an investigation revealed that Peter Obi was the best presidential material among other presidential candidates.
Onuoha said that APC and PDP had misruled Nigeria for the past 23 years, adding that it was time Nigerians voted for Peter Obi to rescue the country.
