This is coming few days after her estranged husband, Lanre Gentry, shaded her and also called her  a prostitute while congratulating Gabriel Afolayan for tying the nuptial knots with his beautiful wife Banke in Ibadan, in a star-studded traditional marriage.

Lanre Gentry who addressed Mercy Aigbe as a prostitute pretending to be a wife, said he knows Gabriel Afolayan made the right choice. Here’s is what he wrote;

My brother congratulations on your wedding, I pray you to your marriage and I know God have made your wife the best not the prostitute that we pretend as wife @gabbyluccii God will protect your home in Jesus name

The couple’s first case of domestic violence was reported in 2013, when Lanre publicly humiliated the actress at popular Lagos club, Troy, where she was being interviewed.

Mercy Aigbe Gentry is best known in Nigeria for her roles in Yoruba movies. She has been married to Lanre Gentry, a Nigerian hotelier, since 2013; the couple has two children – a daughter and a son, as well as three other adoptive children. For a long time the media outlets were not aware of their marriage problems, however, a few years ago Mercy broke the Internet with photos and videos which showed how her husband had beaten her up severally. The shots which showed her with blood and bruises all over her face were posted after her husband told the media that rumors about him beating up his wife were false.

After it got to public notice that Lanre Gentry was an abusive husband, he was legally charged for his actions and even got sent to prison, and the actress finally decided to break up with him. She also reached out to Nigerian women who are being abused by their family members and subjected to violence to speak out, adding that only cowards hit women and real men never do this; she was obviously also referring to her ex-husband who had acted violently towards her on multiple occasions. She also asked the women who are stuck in abusive relationships to get out of them as soon as possible.

After the difficult decision to break up with the man who physically abused her during their time together, Mercy showed the world that she was doing fine on her own. She opened up to the public about her unfortunate marriage and became an advocate of human rights on domestic violence matters, publicly advising domestic abusers to opt out rather than hurt their partners. She received treatment abroad in the United Kingdom and started spending more time with her children judging from photos she shared on Instagram. She also put a lot of effort and work into her own boutique, and shared a lot of photos where she seemed happy and content with life.

Mercy opened up about her marriage in an interview with Broadway Africa, disclosing to the public that she did not really want to dump her husband, and that she only shared the shots and videos of domestic violence in order to seek help for him. She added that she was patient with all the beating because she wanted to be a role model for her fans and children; however, the last time he hit her was so brutal that she finally packed her belongings and left. She also confessed that she forgives her husband everytime he hits her because he begs her forgiveness, promising to change for the better. However, every time she believes him and forgives his wrongdoings, the beating continues.
