The 2018 awards season started off with a red carpet blackout and culminated at tonight’s Oscars with a powerful display of bold, GAF fashion. Instead of resting on their laurels, male attendees and nominees showed up with their clothes, their words, and yes, their lapel pins, playing the part of woke Hollywood stars with everything they had. In short, it was a very good year for suits. Velvet suits. Bright color suits. Suits made out of sustainable silk. Adam Rippon even wore a harness (though he didn’t make it on this list, we applaud his bravery). Here, our favorite looks of the night.

Jordan Peele played the “this is my big night” style card in this classic white tuxedo jacket look. A Get Out-themed antler lapel pin and diamond-studded dress shoes added swagger worthy of a creative genius.

Hammer joined the ranks of guys who eschewed the basic black tux this year and instead opted for this deep burgundy velvet number that’s equal part louche and luxe (a.k.a. just what a swervy formal fit for the Oscars should be).
Chadwick Boseman in Givenchy Haute Couture with David Yurman jewelry
Boseman brought some IRL Wakandan flare to the red carpet with a Givenchy Haute Couture fit, which is French for wildly rare and crazy expensive (also: handmade). It’s also proof that just because you’re not wearing a tux doesn’t mean you’re not Oscars red-carpet ready.

Cropped pants and killer square-off Chelsea boots gave this all-white suit the kind of badass altar boy vibe that Chalamet was made to wear.
