Ogun DPO Locks Up Rape Victim; Suspect Accuses Victim Of Stealing Meat, Flees

16 year old rape victim, Doreen was recently detained at the Ajuwon Police Division Akute in Ogun State for stealing a piece of meat even after accusing her caretaker, Samuel Esosa Ehis from Edo State of rape.

Doreen whose parents live in Mushin, Lagos was taken in November 2016, by the 40 year old Esosa and his wife as a housemaid in school but that didn’t happen until September 2017.

Doreen claimed that over the last 10 months she lived with Esosa and his wife who is a banker and their two toddlers,

“the man told me to pull my skirt many times than i can remember”

She shared her ordeal with her neighbour who confirmed her story but on friday, October 27, Doreen said she was cornered by Esosa about 5pm on her way back from school. When he was done with her, she had to runoff to  the house of her neighbour whom she had reported the initial attempts to.

The neighbour then gave Doreen a phone to call her parents to give an account of everything that had happened and her father came to take her home but returned to the Ajuwon police station the following day to report the matter.

The victim’s father said on getting to the station on saturday, he realised that Esosa had earlier reported at the station that his maid had stolen a piece of meat but accused him of raping her when she was punished for it. She was then detained at the station.

The victim was taken to Mirabel Sexual Assault Referral Centre where it was confirmed that she had indeed been raped. The DPO then asked two of his boys to pick up Esosa but He vanished before they got there. he has since been out of reach.

The Director of Esther Child Rights Foundation who is handling the case has called on the police to redeem their image and ensure Esosa is arrested.  According to her, without apprehending Esosa, the police will only be telling the public that they were bribed to let a suspected rapist loose.
