Many Feared Dead, Injured As Explosion Rocks Papa Ajao, LagosA gas explosion has occurred on Tuesday morning in the Ladipo area of Papa Ajao axis of Lagos State.

The incident which happened around 8am along Ojekunle street on Tuesday has triggered panic in the area, The Nation reports.

An official of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the incident, saying first responders have been deployed to the site of the explosion.

Ibrahim Farinloye, Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said the LPG domestic retailing cehtre located at Ojekunke Street, Ladipo Spare part market, area exploded suddenly.

She expressed;

So far, four adults comprising of three ,males and one female (mama Funmi) were recovered dead while the only infant rescued alive died before getting to hospital. So far, fire has been out out already and recovery of bodies ongoing.

State Fire Service, Police Disaster Management Unit, NEMA and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) are on rescue operations.

Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also announced that it is attending to the situation.

In a statement, the agency said on arrival at the scene, it was discovered that it is an open space used for several activities including a beer parlour, mechanic workshop, spare parts sale and gas shop amongst others while housing a makeshift structure.

Mrs Margaret Adeseye, Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said the place has been cordoned off to prevent secondary incident.

She said investigation to establish the cause of the incident is ongoing and further discovery will be made public.

However, the total number of casualties could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
