Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect of Nigeria, had a call from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday, emphasising his continuous commitment to furthering the US-Nigeria partnership with the next administration.
The Secretary underlined that the U.S.-Nigeria alliance is based on shared interests and solid people-to-people ties, and that these ties should continue to strengthen under President-elect Tinubu’s administration, according to spokesman Matthew Miller.
Miller added that President-elect Tinubu and Secretary Blinken spoke about the value of inclusive leadership that speaks for all Nigerians.

They also discussed policies to enhance economic growth as well as the ongoing, comprehensive security cooperation.
President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu promised to get things done quickly and bring the nation together when he takes office on May 29.
He further committed to doing his part to maintain good ties with the US.
According to Tinubu’s spokesperson, Tunde Rahman, during the candid and cordial telephone conversation, the president-elect stated that his top priorities would be to implement institutional reforms and development initiatives to strengthen democratic institutions and assist the nation’s most vulnerable and underprivileged citizens.
In addition, he reaffirmed his resolve to steadfastly serve the Nigerian people as president while advancing the country’s democracy.
During the roughly 20-minute conversation, President-elect Tinubu recalled how the US had granted him asylum when he had been forced into exile while fighting for the return of democracy to Nigeria. He also reiterated his commitment to democracy and expressed his unwavering belief that the outcome of the elections, which he had clearly won, reflected the wishes of the Nigerian people.
He encouraged the US to recognise Nigeria’s significant role in Africa and offer the necessary support in the areas of security and economic investment so that the country could set the bar high and serve as a role model for the rest of the continent.
President-elect Tinubu and Secretary Blinken wished each other well and pledged to keep the lines of communication open while upholding the positive ties between their two countries as they ended the call.
