IGP Investigates Murder Of Lagos Lawyer By Operative

Usman Baba, the inspector general of police (IGP), has denounced and demanded an investigation into the shooting death on Christmas Day of Omobolanle Raheem, a lawyer, who was allegedly killed by a trigger-happy police officer working out of the Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah, Lagos State.

This occurred as the IGP commanded that all participating police personnel be prosecuted.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force’s spokesperson, revealed in a Monday statement that our correspondent was able to get.

Adejobi said;

The IGP, who described the incident as unfortunate and sad, has ordered speedy investigation and prosecution of the officers responsible for the ugly and unprofessional act, which doesn’t portray the Nigeria Police Standard Operating Procedure and core values.

In the same vein, the IGP commiserates with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased as he prays for the repose of her soul.

He further assures the general public of justice in the case, while he warns officers and men of the NPF to be professional and people-oriented in the discharge of their duties and operate within the ambit of the law, as the Force’s leadership will not condone any inappropriate or unprofessional acts.

Following the passing of a lawyer named Bolanle Raheem, the Lagos State Police Command has said that it will review its rules of engagement.

On Christmas Day in the Ajah district of Lagos, Raheem was fatally shot by a policeman while riding in a car with her husband.

Her passing occurred a few weeks after a comparable incidence had place nearby.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police public relations officer, released a statement on Monday lamenting the incidents and announcing that a case investigation had been ordered. He also expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased and urged the public to maintain calm.
