Bandits Bomb Kaduna-Abuja Train With Over 1,000 Passengers On Board

A train conveying passengers from Abuja to Kaduna has on Monday, March 28 been attacked by gunmen suspected to be bandits in Kaduna State.

Many passengers are feared injured while several others were said to have been kidnapped by the assailants after the train track was bombed with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which forced the train to derail.

Although the police authorities are yet to confirm the attack, sources told PeoplesGazette that the train around Dutse axis in Kaduna, just a few kilometres to the Rigasa Train Station in Igabi Local Government Area of the state.

The incident came two days after armed gangs invaded Kaduna International Airport, killing aviation workers and leaving many others wounded.

Fidet Okhiria, MD of Nigeria Railway Corporation, confirmed the development to Peoples Gazette, saying efforts are underway to obtain further information about it.

One of the passengers also confirmed the incident on Facebook, saying the attackers surrounded the train, shooting sporadically.

Giving an update later, the Facebook user later soldiers have come to their rescue.
