Photos, Videos From Funeral Rites Of COAS, Ibrahim Attahiru, 6 Other Military Officers Who Died In Aircraft CrashBodies of late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Ibrahim Attahiru, and six other officers who died in a plane crash were laid to rest at National Military Cemetery, Abuja on Saturday.

It would be recalled that 11 military officials, including plane crew died in a Beachcraft 350 aircraft that crashed at Kaduna International Airport on Friday, but seven were buried today.

The names of the other officers include Brigadier-General MI Abdulkadir, Brigadier-General Olayinka, Brigadier-General Kuliya, Major LA Hayat, Major Hamza and Sergeant Umar.

Others are Flight-Lieutenant TO Asaniyi, Flight-Lieutenant AA Olufade, Sergeant Adesina and ACM Oyedepo.

Their remains were moved from 44 Nigerian Army Referral Hospital, Kaduna to National Mosque and the Nigerian Air Force Protestant Church in Abuja for prayers.

The remains were later moved to the National Military Cemetary for the interment ceremony.

The burial ceremony started around 2.50 pm with a profile of the late COAS read.

A moment of silence was observed after which the fallen officers were honoured with a 21-gun salute.

Dignitaries at the event include Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Leo Irabor; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao; Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, among others.

Attahiru, born in Kaduna on August 10, 1966, was a major general before his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari as COAS in January 2021. This was after the resignation of Tukur Buratai, a lieutenant general.

Before his appointment, the late army major, was the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu.

Attahiru was at a time the Theatre Commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole until 2017 when he was redeployed.

He had barely spent four months in his new post before the shocking news of his sudden demise on Friday.
