FMC in Kogi vandalized by gunmen
Gunmen have attacked the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja, Kogi State, in the early hours of Wednesday July 1, disrupting a COVID-19 press conference.

The hospital had scheduled a media briefing for the day to demand a COVID-19 screening centre in the state and to also speak about the challenges health workers are facing with regard to the disease.

The armed men were said to have arrived at the facility in three vehicles and shot sporadically to disperse the meeting.

Health workers were said to have been harassed by the gunmen who took away laptops, phones of staff and patients as well as other vital documents from the administrative department of the health institution.

According to reports, the men who were said to be over 10 in number, operated for over 30minutes.

The management of the facility has directed the staff to leave the centre to prevent further attacks.

FMC and the state government have been at loggerheads over the status of COVID-19 in the state.

The state government insists there is no confirmed case of the viral disease in the state but the management of the hospital appears not to agree with them.

According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), there are four confirmed cases of coronavirus in Kogi state.
