Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has officially announced his resignation from his party, All Progressive Council (APC) following his disqualification from participating in primary election of the party over ‘defective certificates’.

He made the announcement on Tuesday after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

Speaking with journalists at the presidential villa, Obaseki said he would pursue his second-term bid on another platform.

Governor Obaseki had on Sunday said his next move will be disclosed after meeting with President Buhari following his disqualification from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.

Obaseki, who is seeking re-election into office for a third term, also stated that his meeting with the President will be after consultation with his supporters.

Stating this via his Twitter handle, the governor described his disqualification as an act of injustice.

He wrote;

I appreciate the sustained show of solidarity, support and goodwill from Edo people and Nigerians in the face of injustice by the APC screening committee. I will be making my next move known after I complete consultations with my supporters and meet with President Buhari.

It is however uncertain what the next move of Governor Obaseki will be as it pertains to the 2020 Edo governorship election.

It is speculated that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be the governor’s next stop as the party as he was seen over the weekend in meetings with different members of PDP.

Atiku Abubakar, former vice-president, had reportedly asked Obaseki to join the PDP, and making way for him to get the party’s ticket.

The governor also met with two PDP governorsNyesom Wike, Rivers state governor, and Emmanuel Udom, over the weekend.
