Just In: NCDC Announces 195 New Coronavirus Cases

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has in the wee hours of Wednesday reported 195 new Coronavirus cases.

The centre made this known on its official Twitter page, stating that 80 of the new cases were reported in Lagos, 38 in Kano, 15-Ogun15-Bauchi, 11-Borno, 10-Gombe, 9-Sokoto, 5-Edo, 5-Jigawa, 2-Zamfara and one each in Rivers, Enugu, Delta, FCT and Nasarawa.

As at Monday night, Nigeria recorded 1337 Coronavirus cases, 255 discharged patients and 40 deaths.

However, with the new cases, there are now 1532 Coronavirus cases, 255 discharged and 44 deaths across the country.

Meanwhile, NCDC Director General, Chikwe Ihekweazu during Tuesday’s Presidential Taskforce for COVID-19 briefing said the laboratory strategic group for Nigeria is targeting to test two million people in 3 months.

He stated that;

Our goal remains to reduce transmission, & we urge the public to avoid unessential travel.

According to him, the only entry point to the control of Coronavirus in Nigeria is through testing.

The NCDC Boss stressed that;

As we continue to scale up our testing capacity, we seek strong collaboration of state governments & public health teams to ramp up sample collection from the right people.

The centre today also said it has adopted a new Coronavirus testing method called COBAS system at the NCDC National Reference Laboratory, which will speed up testing rate.

According to NCDC, with the new method approximately 960 samples can be tested in 8 hours

According to a report on NCDC’s website, Nigeria as at April 27th had tested 10918 persons.
