Nigerian lawmakers have suspended their usual plenary sessions for the next two weeks over the coronavirus disease.

The House of Representatives took the decision in a resolution taken as part of the prayers of a motion moved by Mr. Josiah Idem at plenary on March 3 which was unanimously adopted.

The prayer for the two weeks adjournment was made as an additional prayer to the motion by the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, urging that the lawmakers adjourn for two weeks to allow adequate preparation for the disease at the National Assembly Complex.

According to the House, the suspension period will allow the Management of the National Assembly and principal officers, provide screening and detection facilities at the complex.
