In response to nationwide protests by nurses regarding new verification guidelines, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has pledged swift action. Registrar Dr. Faruk Abubakar issued a statement on Monday acknowledging the nurses’ concerns and promising a prompt resolution.
Listening and Acknowledging:
Dr. Abubakar stated, “We have listened to you and we are going to address it in a short time, in a couple of days. I have listened to you and I have heard you. I want to acknowledge the way you are mobilised and I want to assure you that your documents will be looked at holistically and will address every issue.”
National Interest and Open Communication:
He emphasized the national interest, claiming, “Nigeria is our only country, we don’t have any other country apart from Nigeria. Nobody is against you travelling and whatever policy that is coming on board is in the best interest of Nigerians.”
Commitment to Addressing Concerns:
Dr. Abubakar concluded by assuring the nurses of a thorough review, stating, “You have written your complaints and we will look at them one by one and get back to you.”
Specific details regarding the timeframe for resolution and the nature of the proposed changes remain unknown. Further communication from the NANNM outlining concrete steps and addressing the core issues raised by the nurses will be critical in restoring trust and preventing further protests.
