Calling all meme lords, dance masters, and social media mavens with more followers than pigeons in Trafalgar Square! The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is dropping the mic on tax evasion and urging you to, like, totally register your business, ya dig?

Yep, turns out the feds are sniffing around your sponsored posts and #sponcon deals, and they’re not afraid to hit you with the tax hammer. But fear not, fellow content creators! The CAC is here to be your wingman, saving you from the dreaded “influencer audit” and turning your hustle into a legit biz.

The Registrar General, CAC, Hussaini Magaji, made the call on Tuesday, when he was paid a courtesy visit by the Managing Director, Opay, Dauda Gotring, and his team in Abuja.

He said, “Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. It is stated in the Company and Allied Matters 2020 that for any business to take place in Nigeria, whether you are doing business with your name or another name, you must surrender your business for registration.

”If you are a content creator on the internet and you have a large followership and you are gaining or making money from it, you must register and that’s the provision of the law.

“And we are all out to enforce the provision of the law with its penalties.”

Think of it like this: registering with the CAC is like upgrading from a rusty scooter to a pimped-out Tesla. It’s professional, it’s responsible, and it means you can finally stop sweating those late-night tax form nightmares.

So, ditch the shady side hustle and join the legal fam. The CAC is waiting with open arms (and maybe some snazzy brochures about business structures). Remember, even the biggest meme lords gotta pay their dues, but at least you can do it with a smile (and a tax deduction, maybe?).
