ADAMAWA: Confusion As INEC Voids Reported Binani's Victory, Suspends Collation

Nigeria’s highest court, the Supreme Court, has dealt a blow to Aishatu Ahmed, widely known as Binani, by dismissing her appeal against the election of Ahmadu Fintiri as Governor of Adamawa State. The decision, delivered on Wednesday by Justice John Okoro, upholds Fintiri’s victory and puts an end to Binani’s legal challenge to the result.

Binani, who contested the polls under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had alleged irregularities in the conduct of the election. However, the Supreme Court, after a thorough review of the case, found no merit in her claims. Justice Okoro, in his judgement, stated that the evidence presented by Binani was insufficient to overturn the result of the election.

This verdict marks a significant development in the protracted political drama surrounding Adamawa’s gubernatorial election. Fintiri, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was initially declared the winner in March 2023, but Binani refused to concede defeat and pursued legal options.

Her initial petition at the Election Tribunal and subsequent appeal at the Court of Appeal were both unsuccessful, and with this final rejection by the Supreme Court, Fintiri’s victory is firmly established.
