Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, called on the Federal Government to prioritize critical sectors like education and healthcare in light of the present global economic realities. His remarks came during an interactive session with journalists on Monday in Ibadan, following a condolence visit to Governor Seyi Makinde over the Bodija explosion on January 16th.

Obi emphasized the need for strategic investment in education and healthcare as crucial foundations for national development and individual well-being. He argued that these sectors would equip Nigerians with the necessary skills and resilience to navigate the current global challenges, characterized by rising inflation and resource scarcity.

He charged the Federal Government to initiate measures that would pull Nigerians out of poverty, saying, “Elections are over and governance is the key thing”.

The former Anambra governor charged Nigerians to contribute their quota toward turning around the fortunes of the country, saying that everyone should be involved in the task of developing the country.

His comments resonated with concerns over Nigeria’s rising debt burden and dwindling revenue. Addressing these issues necessitates careful planning, decisive action, and transparent governance, especially in vital sectors like education and healthcare. The success of future economic strategies hinges on the government’s ability to implement reforms that prioritize human capital development, judicious resource allocation, and responsible spending.
