The late MKO Abiola has received praise from President Bola Tinubu, who claims that his legacy continues.

On July 7, 1998, MKO Abiola, the widely regarded 1993 presidential election winner, passed away while being held by the military.

The late Abiola was referred to as a “champion of democracy” by Tinubu on Friday as he observed the 25th anniversary of his passing.

“Today, our nation honours the sacrifice and example of a true hero, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, 25 years after his sad demise,” he said in a tweet.

“A true champion of democracy, his courage and integrity, complete dedication to public service, exemplified the highest ideals of our great nation.
