Lagos Police Arraigns Man For Beating Landlady Over Electricity Bills

A resident in Lagos, Usman Hammed has been charged by the State Police Command with attacking his landlady, Josephine Durodola, at her home at No. 25 Olaniyi Street, Agiliti, in the Mile 12 region of the state. The case was brought before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ogudu.

The accused was charged with assault on Thursday before Magistrate M.O. Tanimola.

Inspector Donjor Perezi, the prosecution, informed the court that the defendant committed the crime on April 8, 2023, about 9 p.m. at No. 25 Olaniyi Street, Agiliti, in the state’s Mile 12 region.

According to Perezi, the defendant beat his landlady after she requested payment for the tenant’s power bill.

According to him, the defendant hit the complainant’s head against an iron gate which caused her to be hospitalised.

The prosecutor added that the offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Tanimola, therefore granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till May 16, 2023, for mention.
