Saratu Dauda, another Chibok schoolgirl, was freed by the Nigerian Army from the Ukuba terrorists’ custody in Borno State’s Sambisa jungle.

The 25-year-old Dauda was taken into custody by ground forces on May 6, 2023, according to Maj-Gen Ibrahim Ali, Theatre Commander for Operation Hadin Kai.

On Monday in Maiduguri, General Ali stated that Dauda was married to Abu Yusuf, a Boko Haram expert in IEDs, when he turned her over to the state commissioner for women’s affairs and social development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo.

He added that the kidnapped woman had three children with her captor-forced spouse, but she abandoned them and escaped the wilderness without them.

Meanwhile, the military commander said efforts were ongoing to rescue the Dauda’s children from her husband.

This was as he noted that she was taken to the Maimalari military hospital for intensive care before handing her over to the state government.

He said;

We thanked God for rescuing Saratu Dauda. This will enable you to have a better life with your parents and other families in Chibok Community.

General Ali said 76 Chibok school girls had so far escaped, while 107 were released by Boko Haram in 2018 out of a total of 276 victims abducted on April 14, 2014.

He said that 186 schoolgirls were freed by the Army, while the terrorists were still holding onto 93 others.

He claimed that the soldiers saved 19 Chibok schoolgirls between 2019 and 2023, including 11 last year.

Gambo, however, informed reporters that Dauda will receive state sponsorship to continue their secondary and post-secondary education in the state.

The commissioner stated that she will be transported to a rehabilitation facility in Maiduguri where she would join other people who were being trained to become independent and contribute to society.
