Olamide Reveals Why He Signed Adekunle Gold, Asake, Other YBNL Artistes

Nigerian rapper and record executive, Olamide Baddo has explained why he decided to establish his own record label, Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL) in 2012.

The record label served as the home to sensational musicians such as- Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, and most recently, Fireboy DML and Asake.

The YBNL boss claimed that when he discovered he had accumulated so much wealth that he didn’t know what to do with it, he made the decision to sign fresh musicians.

Olamide claimed it was his way of giving back to the community by deciding to support up-and-coming musicians in realising their aspirations of becoming household names.

Baddo said,

I just started stacking up money and the money was becoming too much for me.

I was like, ‘Yo, I don’t have anything to do with this money.

Also, I need to sign new guys. Let me spend money on people. You know it is just like my own way of giving back to society.”

Olamide has been described as one of the most innovative musicians in modern Afrobeats history.

He has been lauded for his contribution in the entertainment sector, especially by supporting burgeoning music talents. Baddo has also been acknowledged for propagating Afrobeats culture across the globe through his talent as an artiste and a record executive.
