Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has not been declared the winner of the 2023 presidential election.

During the early hours of Tuesday, February 28, a graphic on social media is deciding one of the three major presidential candidates as the winner of the 2023 presidential election. This is despite the  absence of any form of official announcement from the electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

NIGERIA PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION FINAL RESULTS” is the heading on a graphic posted on Facebook on 28 February 2023.

The post is captioned: “Even with their bungled election, they could not get 25% in FCT. Will INEC Nigeria still declare them winner?

The graphic shows a photo of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi. Three bar charts show the number of votes for Obi and two other presidential candidates.

The graphic claims that in Abuja, the Nigerian capital located in the Federal Capital Territory, Obi got 281,717 votes, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress got 90,902 votes, and Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party got 74,193 votes.

But as of 28 February, has the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) formally declared the Labour Party’s presidential candidate as the winner of the presidential elections? Africa Check carried out an investigation.
