Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State and vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has declared that the party will participate in the general election in 2023 as a single unit.

Following a private meeting with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okowa spoke to reporters on Friday, July 29, at the Benue State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, in Abuja.

He noted that the atonement process being carried out by party leaders to address all difficulties resulting from the party’s presidential primary and his subsequent candidacy for the vice presidency was ongoing and that, in the end, “all issues would be rectified.”

Okowa stressed that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, was a dogged party member who had given his all for the victory of the PDP and would not want to give another political party his commitment.

In his remarks, Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, emphasized that the party hierarchy was on track to forward the discussions to make amends for all the wrongs that had been done during the contest for the presidential and vice-presidential tickets.

On Tuesday, Ortom said that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the party’s nominee for president, had taken his advise and parted ways with Wike.

However, the governor advised that in order to ensure that the atonement process was carried out easily and smoothly, Governor Wike needed to be appeased as a respected party player.
