The All Progressives Congress’ vice presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima, has received the support of President Muhammadu Buhari.

However, he stuck to an earlier stance to hold off on making any comments until May 29, 2023, the day after the general elections, when he will hand over to the party’s presidential candidate Bola Tinubu and his vice presidential running mate Shettima.

This was said by the President on Friday, July 22, at a meeting with important party figures in the council room of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Buhari Lauds Shettima

President Buhari was convinced that the vice presidential candidate would not let the party and Nigerians down despite acknowledging the many qualities of Senator Shettima that he claimed suited him for the job.

He claims that the unity, security, and prosperity of Nigerians are important to him, and he is pleased that the APC is moving in the right direction to make that happen.

The APC vice-presidential candidate responded by stating that the party’s presidential flagbearer was not present due to a breakdown in communication.

He notified President Buhari that the party intended to approach him for guidance and to capitalise on his name recognition in order to win the general elections in 2023.

Besides Shettima, APC stakeholders at the meeting include the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase; APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu; and Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu.

Also present were Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State; Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State; Governor Muhammad Yahaya of Gombe State; Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, and former Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, among others.
