While the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the recently ended election in Ekiti State, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Festus Keyamo believes the ruling party must be ready to do more in order to repeat the feat in Osun State.

Keyamo on Sunday, June 19, congratulated Biodun Oyebanji on the APC’s victory, but he highlighted that more work will be required for the Osun governorship elections, which are set for July 2022.

Keyamo declared in a tweet;

Whilst this buoys our spirits in APC and I congratulate our own Biodun Oyebanji on this momentous feat, we must keep our feet firmly on the ground as there’s greater work ahead to win the Osun Governorship election and the 2023 Presidential elections.

There should be no complacency.

In a calm election, APC’s Oyebanji, a former Secretary to the Ekiti State Government (SSG), won 15 of the state’s 16 Local Government Areas, collecting 187,057 votes.

Segun Oni, the gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), came in second with 82,211 votes, while Bisi Kolawole, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 67,457 votes.

While the election was described as peaceful, there were claims of violence and massive vote buying, particularly by the ruling APC.

In response to these allegations, Keyamo stated in a previous tweet that vote-buying in the governorship election in Ekiti State is not entirely associated with the party.

The claims, according to the minister, are merely subliminal messages delivered to the gullible by opposition parties in order to ensure that the APC loses the election.

He bemoaned the fact that some people will only consider an election respectable if the ruling party loses.
