Akeredolu Orders Flying Of Flags At Half Mast In Honour Of Owo Attack

Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu , on Monday, June 6, directed all public buildings, facilities as well as official residences to fly the Nigerian flag at half-mast for seven days in honour of the victims of the Owo terror attack on Sunday, 5th June 2022.

This was contained in a statement issued by Olabode Richard Olatunde, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Akeredolu.

According to the Governor, the attack on innocent worshipers at St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo was a deliberate as well as calculated assault on the people of the state.

Akeredolu said:

Those who unleashed this unprovoked terror attack on our people have tested our collective resolves. We will not be deterred in responding appropriately to this dastardly act.

In honour of the victims of this unfortunate attack, I hereby direct that all flags be flown at half-mast for seven days; starting from today, Monday, June 6, to Sunday, June 12, 2022. It is a collective loss to the people of our dear state.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari also condemned the terrorist attacks on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

MDB had earlier reported that many worshippers have died and several others have been left injured; following the explosion at the church which is situated close to the palace of the Olowo of Owo.

In his statement issued on Sunday, June 5, via his official Twitter handle, President Muhammadu Buhari commiserated with victims and residents of Owo; while pledging to ensure the prosecution of culprits.

He further charged security agencies to be thorough in their investigations while calming the situation.

President Buhari has condemned the heinous killing of worshippers Sunday at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo Kingdom, in Ondo State.

The President mourns the dead, and condoles with their families, the Catholic Church, and the Government of Ondo State; charging emergency agencies to swing into action and bring succor to the wounded.

“No matter what, this country shall never give in to evil people; and darkness will never overcome the light. Nigeria will eventually win.
