Reverend Stephen Akinola, General Overseer Of Redemption Ministries, Is DeadA popular cleric and General Superintendent of Redemption Ministries, Worldwide, Reverend Stephen Akinola has died at 68.

The news of his death comes barely 24 hours after Prophet T. B. Joshua, founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations died at 57.

It also comes exactly a month and a day after Pastor Dare Adeboye died in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, where he was based with his family.

The 42-year-old was Assistant Pastor in charge of Region (Youth) 35 before his death. He was father to three daughters.

According to BBC, Reverend Akinola died in the early hours of Sunday, June 6 at an hospital in Abuja.

There are speculations that Reports say Rev. Akinola was in Abuja for his second kidney transplant after the first one several months ago in India.

However, as at the time of filing this report, cause of his death could not be ascertained as there was no statement from the family or ministry yet. 

It was gathered that many worshippers, including members of his congregation and residents, had thronged to the church which has its headquarters in Port Harcourt to mourn the famous cleric.

Former Chairman of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria as well as former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Rivers State, Apostle Eugene Ogu confirmed Akinola’s demise to newsmen on Sunday.

Ogu, who is the founder and General Overseer of Abundant Life Ministries, Worldwide headquartered in Port Harcourt said Akinola laboured so much for the body of Christ.

He expressed;

Yes, it is a very sad day for the Christian community. While we were still talking of Prophet TB Joshua, Akinola’s death happened. It is so sad. I pray that God comforts the entire body of Christ because he (Akinola) laboured so much for the body of Christ. That his soul rests in peace and God condoles the body of Christ and his family.

Rev. Stephen Akinola, the native of Igboho, Oyo State, was born in the Northern part of Ghana, in a city called Tamale into the family of Late Mr. Mrs Samuel Akinola Reverend.

He had nine other siblings and was the youngest of all. At the age of 13, Stephen lost his father to a ghastly accident.

Stephen started his elementary school education in a little town of Northern Ghana, Damago at age four. In 1963 he graduated to Middle school. He further attended Government Secondary School, in Tamale. His secondary school education was sponsored by his uncle, which he concluded in the year 1970.

In 1971, he returned to Nigeria and started his career as a teacher in Baptist Primary School, Igboho. He furthered his education after working for two years at the Yaba College of Technology.

Following the completing his education, he decided to go into ministry and getting born again during his school days.

During his National Youth Service Corps days he functioned as one of the pastorate of Deeper Christian Life Ministry (DLCM) where he organized Bible study and prayer meetings through which he wrought signs and wonders. Preaching to multitudes and transforming lives.

He was able to cover most of the eastern states such as Benue State, Abia, Akwa Ibom State, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi State and Anambra State.

Pastor Akinola left DCLM in January 1987 and started his own ministry, the Redemption Ministries which has tremendously increased and has cut across several states in Nigeria and outside the country to places like Brazil, Canada and United Kingdom.
