Covenant University Dismisses Lecturer Arrested For Raping 17-Year-Old Student

Covenant University, Ota in Ogun State has on Wednesday dismissed a lecturer in the Department of Business Management, Dr. Stephen Ukenna, for raping a 17-year-old student of the institution.

The 41-year-old lecturer was said to have forcefully had sex with the young lady on the table in his office on the fateful day.

Following the incident, Ukenna was arrested by operatives of Ogun State Police Command on March 11, 2021 after receiving a complaint at Ota Area Command by the lady’s parents.

Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

The PPRO explained further that the lady reported that the lecturer called her to his office on the pretext that he planned a surprise birthday for one of her friends.

However, on getting to Ukenna’s office, he reportedly seized her, locked the door and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her atop a table.

According to Oyeyemi, the suspect admitted to having non-consenting sex with the victim but was unable to give any reason for his action.

In latest development, the institution has now dismissed the lecturer on Wednesday following the recommendation of a panel set up to look into the matter.

The university said;

Immediately we learnt of this unfortunate incident; we tracked, arrested, and handed him over to the police. The university supports the prosecution of this wolf in sheep clothing.

We are in touch with the family of the student and will support her recovery efforts. Covenant University will never condone evil under any guise.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has given a directive for the transfer of the suspect to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.
