A statement on Woods’ social media platforms reads;

Tiger has recently undergone a microdiscectomy procedure to remove a pressurized disc fragment that was pinching his nerve. His doctors and their team have determined it to be a success and expect him to make a full recovery.

Doctors said the surgery was successful but Woods, 45, will miss a number of PGA Tour events.

It’s Woods’ first back surgery since a successful spinal fusion in 2017 that allowed him to return to form, eventually completing his greatest comeback, winning a fifth green jacket at the 2019 Masters.

Woods stated;

I look forward to begin training and am focused on getting back out on Tour.

He is expected to be out for around two months, missing the upcoming Farmers Insurance Open from 28-31 January and Genesis Invitational from 18-21 February.

Between August 2015 and December 2017, Woods played in just one PGA Tour event, as he was suffering with a back complaint.

In 2019, Woods withdrew from Arnold Palmer Invitational with a neck strain, casting some doubt on whether he would be healthy for the Masters, which he eventually won.

In 2017, Woods underwent spinal fusion to get his day-to-day life back, but it was a long shot for the golf legend to get his game back.

In 2015, Woods was fighting his game and appeared to be battling the chipping yips – jittery jab or weak prod causing golfers to miss short putts – before taking two months off and returning at the Masters.
