United States President-elect, Joe Biden, has thanked Americans for choosing him to lead the country for the next four years.
On Saturday, he surpassed the 270 electoral college votes needed to defeat incumbent President Donald Trump (214 electoral college votes) and clinched the White House.

Biden, in a victory statement after being announced winner of the 2020 US presidential election by US media, wrote;
I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice-President-elect Harris.
In the face of the unprecedented obstacles, record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the hearts of the America.

With the campaign over, Biden said;
It’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It’s time for America to unite and heal. We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do, if we do it together.
Major international and US-based TV networks declared on Saturday that the Democrat has won the US presidency over Donald Trump, a victory sealed after the Democrat claimed several key battleground states won by the Republican incumbent in 2016.
Checks by MDB showed that CNN, NBC News, CBS News, BBC and Al Jazeera, amongst others, projected the race in Biden’s favour, after he won the decisive state of Pennsylvania.
Biden beat Trump with a projected 284 electoral college votes to emerge the 46th president of the United States.
Biden, 77, is the oldest candidate ever elected to the White House. Trump, 74, has made unsubstantiated claims of massive voter fraud, and his campaign has launched legal challenges in several states.
The US President-elect spent eight years as vice president to Barack Obama. His victory comes in his third run for the nation’s highest office.
