One Feared Dead, Another Injured As Youths Plunder COVID-19 Palliatives In Edo Youths in Benin City, Edo state have on Saturday stormed government warehouse along Medical Store Road in Uselu axis of the state and plundered stored COVID-19 palliatives.

The mob, which had earlier in the morning, been prevented by military personnel from carrying out the act, succeeded in breaking the human shield mounted by the military and entered the store in their hundreds.

One of the  youths who spoke to newsmen accused the state government of hoarding food items and other COVID-19 palliatives meant for the people.

He  said most of the items looted were already in bad shape having either expired or bad for consumption particularly the bags of rice.

Meanwhile, a man is said to have died due to the stampede while attempting to make away with his loot.

The man, it was learnt, allegedly gained access to the COVID-19 palliative warehouse through the back opening created by the looters on the roof at the back of the warehouse.

Also, according to viral video, a lady was bleeding profusely from her back as she was being carried away by two men, who appears to be helping her.

The lady had an injury on the back of her neck, though the video narrator did not disclose the source of the wound.

Cases of looting of warehouses where COVID-19 relief materials are kept have recently occurred in various states like Lagos, Kwara, Plateau and Cross River.

There was an attempt to break into the arts and culture centre in the federal capital territory (FCT) on Saturday.
