Maguire was not present in Syros today for the court case, as he was allowed to return to England, but he was found guilty on all charges.

He was handed a jail term of 21 months and 10 days, but it will be suspended because it was a first offence and the charges were classed as misdemeanors.

Despite the verdict hanging over Maguire’s head, the defender was selected for England’s upcoming fixtures against Iceland and Denmark today.

English football manager, Gareth Southgate insisted he could only work with the ‘facts’ of the situation and said the ‘reports’ of the incident did not match what Maguire had told him when the pair spoke on Monday.

However, that decision may now be reviewed as Maguire faces the prospect of jail time.
