Just In: NCDC Confirms 252 New Cases, 707 Recoveries

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded 252 new cases and 707 recoveries on Tuesday, August 25.

In the centre’s latest data posted on Twitter, there are now;

On Monday, Nigeria’s total COVID-19 toll surpassed to 52,548 with 39,257 recoveries and 1004 casualties across the country.

However, with the new toll, there are now 52,800 total cases, 39,964 recoveries and 1007 fatalities nationwide.

Also, according to NCDC’s situation report, total samples tested nationwide have increased from 379,542 to 383,130 as at August 24.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has revealed that chloroquine can kill COVID-19 virus at the early stage.

Adeyeye disclosed these during a virtual press conference on Tuesday in Abuja.

She further stated that remdesivir, made by Gilead Sciences Inc, has also been shown to kill the virus at late stages.

The NAFDAC boss however noted the cost for treating people with chloroquine was way cheaper than remdesivir.

While remdesivir cost $2,500 to treat an average patient, chloroquine only cost $10.

She also noted West African nations like Ghana, Togo and Senegal have embraced the clinical use of chloroquine for treatment.
