Governor Obaseki to meet Buhari over disqualification
Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has said his next move will be disclosed after meeting with President Buhari following his disqualification from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.

Obaseki, who is seeking re-election into office for a third term, also stated that his meeting with the President will be after consultation with his supporters.

Stating this via his Twitter handle on Sunday, the governor described his disqualification as an act of injustice.

He wrote;

I appreciate the sustained show of solidarity, support and goodwill from Edo people and Nigerians in the face of injustice by the APC screening committee. I will be making my next move known after I complete consultations with my supporters and meet with President Buhari.

This comes after speculations that the Governor decamped to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after being disqualified.

MDB had reported the disqualification of Governor Obaseki from contesting in the governorship primary election of the party slated for June 22.

Chairman of APC screening committee Jonathan Ayuba, announced this on June 12 over his ‘defective’ secondary school certificate.

Ayuba said;

In our view of the issues raised, we have concluded that the higher school certificate was defective. The NYSC certificate – and act of the aspirant taking the party to court – these are some of the issues we have attached and based on the party constitution this has made us to recommend that his excellency Godwin Obaseki is not eligible to participate in the governorship primary election.

The APC National Working Committee (NWC) upheld the disqualification on Saturday, accusing the governor of also unduly interfering in the state’s legislature.

Although Governor Obaseki rejected the screening committee’s report, he has said he will not appeal the decision.

The NWC is the highest appeal body in the APC.
