Buhari Backs Giadom As Acting National Chairman Of APC, To Attend NEC Meeting

President Muhammadu Buhari
has backed Victor Giadom, deputy national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the acting national chairman.

This was disclosed to state house correspondents by spokesman of the president, Garba Shehu on Wednesday.

Shehu said Buhari will attend the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC which Giadom acting as the national chairman fixed for Thursday.

He stressed;

The President has received very convincing advice on the position of the law as far as the situation in the party is concerned and has determined that the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman.

This is because he will always act in accordance with the law, the President will be attending the virtual meeting Giadom called for tomorrow afternoon.

Garba added;

We urge the media to stop promoting manufactured controversies and to not give any further room for mischievous interpretations of the law on this matter. In addition to the President, the Giadom meeting will, hopefully, be attended by our Governors and the leaders of the National Assembly.

In a letter dated June 23, Gaidom informed Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), that a meeting of the party’s NEC would take place at the presidential villa on Thursday.

APC NEC meetings usually holds at the national secretariat of the party.

There has been leadership crisis in APC following the confirmation of the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the party’s national chairman by an appeal court order.

While Abiola Ajimobi, former Oyo Governor, was named acting chairman, Giadom insists that he has taken over the leadership of the party, despite another court order disproving.

Members of the national working committee (NWC) loyal to the former Oyo state Governor later announced that Eta Hilliard, vice-chairman south-south, would act on behalf of ailing Ajimobi.

Eta thereafter described Gaidom as an imposter, stating that a court order confirmed that Giadom is no longer a member of APC or NWC.

It has led to further confusion among members of the party.
