Breaking: NCDC Records 184 New COVID-19 Cases, Total Infections Now 4971

184 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Nigeria, bringing the total infections in the country to 4971.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the new cases in an official tweet late Wednesday.

The centre tweeted that;

Though there is currently no known cure for coronavirus, the number of successfully managed cases in the country has risen from 959 recorded on Tuesday night to 1070.

Total number of fatalities has also increased from 158 to 164 after recording 6 new deaths.

In addition, NCDC in its daily COVID-19 report revealed that 29,408 samples have been tested nationwide.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a former Minister of External Affairs, Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari as the new Chief of Staff.

Prof. Gambari is a 75-year-old scholar and diplomat who hails from Ilorin, Kwara State. 

His appointment was declared by Tolu Ogunlesi, Special Adviser to President Buhari on Digital and New Media via an official tweet on Wednesday.

The appointment took place during the maiden virtual meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) chaired by President Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The new appointee will be replacing Mallam Abba Kyari, who died in April, after battling COVID-19.
