Governor Sanwo-Olu Speaks On Possible Extension Of Lockdown, Announces One Recovered, Discharged Coronavirus

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that the lockdown order in the state may be extended in the state beyond the 14 days initially directed by the presidency. 

It would be recalled that on March 29, President Buhari ordered the suspension of all movements in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun state for an initial period of 14 days to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Governor Sanwo-Olu talked about the possible extension of the lockdown period during a media briefing on Saturday.

He added that the lockdown would be extended depending on the situation of things, but assured residents that palliatives would be provided.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said;

If there’s a need to extend the lockdown, I will. We got one discharged patient today (recovered from the coronavirus).

We are going to sit down with the committee that is working on the community markets and see if we can announce more next week.

On alleged assault of Lagos residents by enforcement agents, Sanwo-Olu said;

There’s been no backlash on the handling of people by the security operatives so far. I always tell them to ‘wear a human face’.

The Governor also revealed during the press briefing that a coronavirus patient receiving treatment at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Yaba, Lagos, has been discharged following full recovery.

Although, the governor did not give details of the patient, he expressed optimism that more patients would be discharged soon.

MDB on April 3rd reported that Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced via a tweet that four patients were discharged from IDH in the state.

Of the 209 Coronavirus cases confirmed in Nigeria, Lagos has recorded 109 cases, 24 discharged, one evacuated and one death. 

Governor Sanwo-Olu also announced that the state will treat patients with Emergency/Casualty cases, Maternity cases, Lab tests, Surgeries for free for the month of April, 2020 for a start.

He said that the free medical services is part of palliative measures to cushion the effect of the lockdown imposed on the state to fight the spread of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday said it made an error in its report of confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the country on Friday night.

As at press time, there are 209 confirmed Coronavirus cases, 25 recoveries and 4deaths in Nigeria as against 210 previously reported.
