Nigeria Centre for Disease control (NCDC) has announced that Ondo state has confirmed a new Coronavirus case.

NCDC had announced this alongside 19 newly confirmed cases on Monday night, with Ondo currently having three cases.

The new case in Ondo State, according to Premium Times, is that a corps member, whose identity has not been revealed.

Premium Times reported that the corps member is a medical doctor, having his primary assignment at the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment.

It was said that he contracted the virus after being in contact with the state’s index case who is under observation at the centre.

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr Donald Ojogo, confirmed this development in a statement on Tuesday morning.

He said;

The third positive case in Ondo State is a medical doctor; he is a Youth Corp member attached to the Army Clinic at the Barracks and had attended to the first index case while he was under observation.

Ojogo added that the Governor will address residents of the state at noon to give further details in respect of the new case.

Meanwhile, the second confirmed case in the state is an airport staff in Lagos who came into Ondo State last week and was found to have carried the virus from his base in Lagos to Ijoka, a community at the suburb of Akure, the Ondo State capital.

He was immediately isolated and his immediate family and other contacts quarantined in line with the NCDC protocol.

The stay-at-home order in Ondo state is still in force, but compliance has been a major problem as many people still violate the order.
