INEC has denied plans to allow IDPs in Chad and Niger vote in 2019 elections, as disclosed in a statement which was released today.

 

Earlier today, Punch reported that chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who spoke in Abuja during the stakeholders validation conference on the framework for IDPs voting jointly organised with the International Foundation for Electoral Support, said;

“IDPs in the neighbouring countries of Niger and Chad who left their abode due to insurgency in the North East would not be denied their voting rights.”

However in a statement released today, INEC stated that there won’t be any diaspora or out of Nigeria voting for any Nigerian. According to the commission, only IDPS residing in states they registered can vote in all elections.
