The Passing out Parade held for 17A stream 1 corp members yesterday, also came with report of 30 corps members deployed to Ondo State for their service year, repeating the programme for absconding.

Announcing this at the passing out parade for the corps members held in Akure on Thursday, the Ondo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Grace Akpabio said that 17 corps members got extension ranging from two weeks to three months for truancy and other offences. She also stated that 2,088 corps members successfully passed out, with three getting state awards for outstanding performance during the service year.

“Permit me to stress that gone are the days of being expectant of a life-time job immediately after service.

‘‘It is deception of oneself if you think along that line, is better for you to brace up and think of what you can do yourself.

“Do not align with people that put up attitude as if creative thinking and individual initiative ended with graduation, this is absolutely wrong,” she said.

On the other hand, Bello Ballama, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, disclosed that it will include farming and crop production as part of the one year primary assignment for NYSC members from the next service year.

According to him, the move was to help address corps members rejection by some corps employers through the engagement of more corps members in all aspects of farming and crop production. He also hoped that it will boost the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme. Ballam further disclosed that the scheme was therefore putting all its farms in good condition, in readiness for corps members to commence its use.

‘From this 2018 Batch ‘A’ Stream I set of corps members who are commencing orientation on April 19, we are going to look into all the farm formations and centres to be able to post corps members there. We have farms in the FCT and many other states of the country; the present leadership of the scheme is poised to ensuring the revival of all NYSC facilities including the farms’ he said.
