They have been identified as Kelechi Elendu and Charles Benjamin Ngozichukwuka of the departments of Nursing and Medical Laboratory Technology, respectively.

Friends of the deceased have taken to social media pages to show sympathy and pay tribute to their friends who they still can’t believe have passed on.

Also, a 12-year-old boy, Samsodeen Adeniran, who went fishing with 4 of his friends drowned in a river on Lisaluwa Street, Ondo State.

The boys were said to have gone fishing shortly after a downpour in the area. According to reports, the friends had agreed to go fishing at River Saluwa in the town with the hope that they would make some catch after the downpour.

12-year-old Samsodeen Adeniran was alleged to have jumped into the river, but did not come up swimming, which caused his friends to raise the alarm.

His parents were reportedly informed of the incident and a report was lodged at Funni-Fagun Divisional Police Station in the town.

A search party was raised and its efforts later paid off after some hours, as the lifeless body of the boy was discovered wegded between some woods.

A source said:

“Local swimmers were employed to find the missing boy. His corpse was later found in the river by the swimmers.”

Another source told Punch that the deceased’s parents were arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for the death.

The Ondo State Police Public Relation Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident, describing it as sad and unfortunate.

He, however, denied the arrest of the deceased’s parents, saying they were only invited for interrogation.

Joseph said:

“It is illogical to say we arrested the parents. They came to report to us and they told us that they were not interested in making any case from the incident and we agreed with them. So, they left and buried the boy.”
