Lawmaker’s Wife Dies After Taking Concoction To Increase Her Breast Milk

A member of the Katsina state House of Assembly, has lost his wife Binta Safiyanu, who was alleged to have drunk a herbal concoction that was meant to boost the flow of her breast milk.

The case is currently being investigated by the police after it was reported that the woman died from drinking the herbal concoction.

According to Punchng, the deceased, a mother of six, was reported to have died just a week after she was delivered of a set of twins. It was learnt that Binta was the first wife of Hon. Yunusa Jikamshi.

Reports revealed that the woman after being delivered of the babies, could not secrete enough milk from her breast to feed her babies with. This made her other co-wives implore her to take a herbal concoction which was said would increase the flow of milk in her breast for the twin babies not to starve.

The other two wives allegedly assured her that the concoction would enhance the flow of the milk. Another version, however, had it that the deceased was fond of taking traditional herbs and allegedly directed a woman identified simply as Sakina to prepare the concoction for her.

The deceased was reported to have started vomiting immediately after she took the mixture. She was was subsequently rushed to Musawa General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead on arrival. She has since been buried, according to Islamic rites.

Sakina is however being detained by the police. The spokesman for the state police command, DSP Isah Gambo, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation was in progress to unravel the real circumstances surrounding Bintu’s death.

Memebers of the Katsina House of Assembly have expressed their shock over the incident and they were seen in their numbers trooping into the house of the lawmaker to pay their condolences.
