The war against insurgency in the north-east received a massive boost with news that a high ranking member of the Boko Haram terrorist group, Bulama Kailani Mohammed Metele, turned himself in to the 145 Task Force Battalion, 5 Brigade troops at Damasak.

This was disclosed in a statement Saturday by army spokesman, Brig General Sani Usman, who said the terrorist kingpin was being interrogated as at the time of filing this report.

“He is currently undergoing further interrogation,” he said.

According to the army spokesman, Kailani Metele, who hailed from Tumbun Bera in Borno State, belonged to Mamman Nur’s faction of Boko Haram under the leadership of Abu Mustapha.

Metele was on the Nigerian Army’s wanted Boko Haram terrorists poster produced last year with a serial number of 253.

In a related development, Mr. Usman stated that two suspected Boko Haram terrorists carrying out surveillance on Kareto and Dangalti villages were arrested by troops of 158 Task Force Battalion of 5 Brigade.

He said the interception was made possible due to their improved intelligence gathering in the region.

The army spokesman said their preliminary investigation reveals that the nabbed insurgents were on reconnaissance mission to facilitate possible attack on the communities.

After their degradation by the Nigerian Army last year, Boko Haram terrorists have resorted to guerrilla style attacks on civilian populations in Borno and environs.
