The 2017 Edition of the Screen Actors Guild awards was a night of powerful speeches against Donald Trump, and deserving honours.

Hidden Figures – a NASA fact-based film about three black women, and Stranger Things emerged the big winners of the night. While stars like Denzel Washington and Viola Davis got the nods for their amazing performances in the Fences.

Most the acts who stepped on the stage to accept the awards slammed Donald Trump, especially following his recent controversial Executive Order banning citizens from certain Islamic nations from entering the United States. Though President Trump denies that the order was a Muslim ban, his fiery utterance on Twitter left many people believing he is targeting Muslims.

Accepting the award for the Best Ensemble, Taraji P Henson said: “This story is of unity and this story is about what happens when we put our differences aside … Love wins.

And actor Mahershala Ali who won the Best Supporting Actor for his role in Moonlight, noted how division can upset a community, noting that though he converted to Islam, he still maintain a great relationship with his Christian mother.
