In a Wednesday interview on ChannelsTV, All Progressives Congress (APC) spokesperson Felix Morka acknowledged the difficult economic situation Nigerians face, but urged patience and defended the government’s record.

“Our people are dealing with circumstances that are difficult and challenging. Nobody is in denial,” Morka said, recognizing the hardships affecting many Nigerians. He then drew a comparison to farmers in Europe, stating that “things are tough everywhere else” and emphasized that even countries “doing better than we are” are facing challenges.

However, Morka expressed concerns about the current political discourse surrounding the government’s performance. “This government has a mandate of four years,” he asserted. “Why are we sitting here talking as though we are in the eighth month of the eighth year of this administration?”

His statement suggests the APC views ongoing criticism through the lens of the government’s remaining term, implying they believe it’s too early for a full assessment.

Morka’s interview remarks highlight two key perspectives within the APC:

  • Acknowledgement of Challenges: Recognizing the difficulties faced by Nigerians and the overall global economic climate.
  • Defense of Government Performance: Pushing back against criticisms and urging patience, emphasizing the incomplete tenure of the current administration.

It remains to be seen how the public will respond to Morka’s message. With Nigerians grappling with ongoing economic struggles, calls for action and accountability may not be quelled by solely emphasizing the remaining time in the government’s term.
