AFCON-2027-DSTV

Turns out, football fever won’t be streaming on SuperSport’s pitch this January. DSTV just dropped the ultimate own goal, declaring they won’t broadcast the African Cup of Nations! Looks like it’s time to dust off that old TV aerial, folks, cuz this tournament’s on free-to-air only.

Multichoice, DSTV’s parent company, in a statement said, “SuperSport Channel will not broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 scheduled for January 13th – February 11th, 2-24, because the channel has not secured the rights to broadcast the tournament.

“However, AFCON 2023 games will be available through our partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels.

“Multichoice Africa remains committed to ensuring football fans across Africa continue to enjoy unrivaled access to entertainment and football games available on DStv and GOtv platforms including, the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Zambian Super League, and many more of football’s most prestigious competitions.”

But hey, maybe it’s a blessing in disguise? Imagine: no overpriced subscriptions, no remote wars, just pure, unadulterated football (and maybe some questionable refereeing, but that’s a given, right?). So grab your vuvuzelas, stock up on snacks, and prepare for a viewing party under the stars! After all, sometimes, the best things in life are free (and involve Mo Salah weaving magic on the pitch).

Don’t worry, DStv fans, you’ll get your football fix eventually. But for now, put on your dancing shoes and celebrate the beautiful game the old-fashioned way. Remember, it’s not just about watching the goals, it’s about the communal joy, the unexpected surprises, and the occasional spilled beer on the rug. So let’s raise a toast to the AFCON, cheers to free-to-air, and brace ourselves for a month of footballing pandemonium (in the best way possible)!
