Akpabio For Senate President As APC Releases Zoning For 10th NASS Leadership Positions

The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, has announced its final choices for the 10th National Assembly’s leadership roles.

This was stated in a memo that Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, released and signed on Monday.

MDB had reported that Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, chose Tajudeen Abbas and Ben Kalu to serve as speaker and deputy speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, respectively.

This decision excludes the North-central zone from the top six seats.

A meeting was conducted on Friday afternoon at the Defence House, the president-elect’s official residence, and Tajudeen, a lawmaker from Kaduna State North-West, was chosen as the favoured candidate, it was learned.

In order to balance what has since evolved into a united ticket, Kalu, a lawmaker from Abia State in the southeast, was chosen.

As deputy senate president and senate president, respectively, Tinubu has chosen Godswill Akpabio of Akwa-Ibom, South-South, and Barau Jibrin of Kano State, North-West, according to sources who also spoke to MDB.

Confirming this position, Morka, in the memo, said;

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) met today, Monday, May 8, 2023 to consider reports of consultations and meetings held with the President- Elect, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, other Party leaders and stakeholders on zoning arrangement for 10th National Assembly leadership positions.

The NWC noted with respect the outcome of the meetings held between the President-Elect and the leadership of the NWC. The NWC called for further and better consultation with necessary stakeholders in order to assure the support of the aspirants to the National Assembly leadership positions and members of the Party nationwide.

The zoning arrangement reported to the NWC is as follows:

SENATE:

1. Senate President – South South – Senator Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom).

2. Deputy Senate President – North West – Senator Barau Jubrin (Kano).

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:

3. Speaker, House of Representatives – North West – Hon. Abass Tajudeen (Kaduna)

4. Deputy Speaker – South East – Hon. Ben Kalu (Abia)
