The 95th edition of the Oscars Award ceremony took place on Sunday, March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, honoring films released in 2022.

Tems, an Academy Award-nominee attended the ceremony in a lush white gown from Lever Couture with a particularly obstructive headpiece – taking up space in a much more literal sense.

Hate to be the brother next to Tems in the Oscar audience. Fighting for his life,” Eric Hinton, a news editor for NBC News wrote on Twitter.

Immediately after the tweet was published, Nigerian Twitter users quickly countered the statement, saying that “no Tems slander will be tolerated“.

It didn’t end there, more netizens felt sorry for those who were behind the Grammy award winner. “Imagine waiting your whole life to be at the Oscars and you end up sitting behind a stratus cloud,” another user wrote.

The outfit has been a topic of discussion among netizens since Sunday night, some commentators claim it is symbol disclosing the strength of ‘Black women taking her place in a historically white space’, while others simply considered it to inconsiderate.
